Eat Cake Contest Winners
Lindenhurst High School seniors Amanda Takach and Nicolas Deciutiis are the Grand Prize winners in the Long Island Family and Consumer Sciences Challenge 2012 for the “Let Them Eat Cake” contest. The competition is open to student entrants from high schools throughout Long Island. The LIFACS professionals started the competition three years ago with various culinary categories.
Amanda and Nicolas’ creation was “A Walk through Candyland” and measured three feet by six feet. The students used modeling chocolate and fondant to craft characters and scenes from the board game Candyland.
Amanda and Nicolas were presented with awards and certificates at a special end- of-year dinner. “Amanda and Nicolas truly deserved the special honor of Grand Prize,” said Culinary Arts teachers Stefana Lipari, Caroline Naluai and Heather Reismiller. Both Amanda and Nicolas will be attending Johnson & Wales University in the fall, studying Culinary Arts and Pastry Arts, respectively.

Voters Approve School Budget
Voters in the Lindenhurst School District approved the 2012-2013 budget proposal by a vote of
1836 to 1289. The budget reflects an estimated tax increase of 2.45% for the average Lindenhurst homeowner.
Donna Hochman, Patty Ames, and Mary Ellen Cunningham were elected as Board Trustees.
"We worked very hard on this budget, and it’s fiscally responsible while maintaining as much program as possible,” said Superintendent Richard Nathan “We were able to maintain such programs as full-day kindergarten and a full sports program. We’ll be able to continue to be able to be the home of great schools.”
